Neo-western

In conversation with Cawelti's delineation, we now experience a revitalized genre, the neo-Western. Questions arise: Does the neo-Western signify a point in time when civilization has become so thoroughly corrupted and co-opted that savagery and lawlessness experience an inclining surge, creating a nihilistic outlook in comparison to the old epic/tragedy style which represented the best possible outcome for humanity?
