Obon

During Obon there is much confusion at train stations.

Koike said she understands that it is the "Obon" festival, a period during which Japanese people customarily travel to visit family, but she urged residents to refrain from travel or even going out to restaurants to protect "loved ones, family and medical fields.”

Japan's Obon is similar to Mexico's Day of the Dead.

It was coming up to Obon, and spirits were cruising about like travelers arriving at the airport with their suitcases, looking for a place to check in. Obon was their summer vacation, too, when they could come back from the land of the dead to visit us here, in the land of the so-called living.
