Oligosomal

The end stages of apoptosis are often characterized by the appearance of membrane blebbing, the appearance of highly condensed chromatin and activation of an endonucleolytic process, that leads to the cleavage of chromosomal DNA into oligosomal DNA that can be observed as a distinct laddering pattern on an ethidium bromide-stained agarose gel.
