Overloquaciousness can reap one of two possible results for this committee member. Either his arguments are persuasive and he draws support, or his much talking builds enmity among the other committee members.

In the psychoneurotic patient, direct treatment of these conditions—silence or overloquaciousness—is also not possible. Treatment has to be directed toward uncovering the underlying memories and feelings of which the traits are a result; that is, the therapist must wait until the nuclear problems from which they stem are resolved and the anxieties that generate the silences are reduced or eliminated and the behavior pattern is automatically sloughed off.
