Pecan

I saw an old and hollow pecan tree that had some bees flying around it.

"Pecan" is one of those tricky words that gets pronounced in several different ways.

Jeff Worn, the Vice President of the South Georgia Pecan Company in Valdosta, Georgia, one of the largest pecan producers in the world, says the Chinese bought about 31 to 36 million kilograms last year, a third of the entire U.S. pecan crop last year. He says that has raised the price of pecans precipitously.

Both peoples lived off deer, small game, rodents, and even insects, but their main food sources were probably plants such as prickly pear cactus, mesquite beans, and pecan.

One of many botanical debates regards the question of the pecan — To me, it's a fruit, and not a nut.

And away on the farther bank, a motte of huge pecans, standing like giant sentinels over the dwarfed landscape, filled the eye with remote vistas in their shady, twilight aisles. It was very still.

Each shell contains two pecans, usually plump and oblong in shape, although some varieties are round or pointed.
