Petrocapitalism

For the purpose of better understanding the ensuing discussion in this chapter, petrocapitalism is said to operate successfully through an intertwined oil complex “that is territorially constituted through oil concessions”.

While geography of extractive petrocapitalism is focused on specific points in space – what Gavin Bridge (2010, 1) calls the geographies of “the hole” – consumptive petrocapitalism is dispersed and virtually includes the entirety of capitalism itself.

Music is not simply a passive observer of the plastic age. It is an active contributor to petrocapitalism, an agent of petroculture.
