Plaistering

Men, soon ceasing to fall asleep under the first Tree, or take shelter in the first Cavern, light upon some hard and sharp kinds of Stone resembling Spades or Hatchets, and employed them to dig the Ground, cut down Trees, and with the Branches build Huts, which they afterwards bethought themselves of plaistering over with Clay or Dirt.
