They proposed two potential mechanisms of pseudopalisade formation: (a) tumour cells at greatest distance from arterial supplies become hypoxic due to increased metabolic demands, leaving a central necrotic core; (b) microvascular occlusion or collapse within the neoplasm could lead to perivascular hypoxia.
