The general atmosphere of the is described by Professor Boland as “exposure of the student to a large number of practical business situations by case studies, projects, business games, rôleplaying, films, field trips and programme learning.[…]”

To be more specific about the types of exercise for which these systems are designed, the following may be identified: repetition, manipulation drills, question and answer, rôleplaying, guided oral composition, aural comprehension with spoken responses, and consecutive translation.

If ethos and persona derive, in large part, from cultural mores, voice emerges through performance. As Walter Ong put it, “Voice is the foundation for rôleplaying among men.”
