Scolecodonts from the Potter Farm Formation of the Devonian of Michigan

Striking similarities between scolecodonts and jaws of modern worms has resulted in general agreement that scolecodonts are properly placed in order Errantida of class Polychaetia.

Scolecodonts are the partly organic, fossil remains of the jaw apparatus, a tooth-like structure, of eunicid polychaete annelid worms.
