Seawalls

Seawalls are barriers, usually vertical walls, between the land and water that protect from wave erosion.

To help control the damage from flooding, some roads and buildings have been elevated and seawalls are being reinforced.

Ghana has started building seawalls at key points along its shore to stop coastal erosion and protect beaches, communities and historic buildings.

There are also calls to build seawalls to protect the city, which already suffers from frequent flooding. Such a project would cost billions of dollars. And even if the walls are built, nature could still eventually reclaim everything people have built in some unprotected low-lying areas.
