Shashlick

So tight a canopy does the trees’ foliage make that you can scarcely see the tall buildings – the statues’ heads, too, are mercifully hidden in the leaves – whilst the quieter streets I walked through rang with footsteps and talk that evening, and smelt of shashlick broiling on smoky fires.
