Superaffluence

We have all heard of the young man who while serving contentedly as a hotel porter, and glad of the job, was suddenly elevated to superaffluence by inheriting a large fortune.

The book of Judges invites us to ask ourselves whether the same greed and self-centeredness that has produced our superaffluence is not also systematically teaching us to be violent.
