Swing bridge

When the scheme is completed, the 99-year-old swing bridge over the canal will be dispensed with as the new bridge will have sufficient height to allow clearance for the passage of canal traffic.

Turn right here and walk along the harbour side to the swing bridge.

Then we cross a white swing bridge over the wide Caledonian Canal, which is opened several times a day.

Cross New Zealand's longest Swingbridge on the 110m long Buller Gorge Swingbridge, suspended 17 1/2 metres high above the mighty Buller River.

For an active day out, walk the most varied section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track from Medlands to Anchorage with return boat transfers from Kaiteriteri. This walk features the impressive Falls River Swing Bridge (15–20 metres high, depending on the tide height), Torrent Bay inlet, and Anchorage Beach.
