Terminological

Even the word depression itself was the terminological product of an effort to soften the connotation of deep trouble. In the last century, the term crisis was normally employed.

I am inclined, however, to think that the terminological exactitude so necessary to scientific statement could not be accommodated to the range of the child-mind without a certain damage to the content.

In earlier works, what is here called S-structure was frequently referred to as ‘Surface Structureʼ; but in more recent work a crucial terminological distinction has been drawn between S-structure ( = the output of the Syntactic Component of our Grammar) and Surface Structure ( = the output of the Phonological Component).
