Ultramodern

An interesting Japanese anime is No. 6, about surviving post-apocalyptic ultramodern city-states in this world in the future.

Forbidden Planet, a vintage American sci-fi film, was influential to my childhood psyche, thinking about robots and living in an ultramodern house on a deserted planet.

No. 6 is a Japanese anime series about an ultramodern city-state in the post-apocalyptic era.

Set against the exotic and ultramodern backdrop of Singapore, the film rewards its audience with an uplifting modern day fairy tale.

I have been studying Japanese aesthetics consciously since my teenage years on Lulu Island, or maybe even before, as a prepubescent somewhat unwittingly in the Philippines. In Quezon City, we kids watched Japanese samurai shows and cartoons. We made Zero fighters and Messerschmidts as cardboard airplanes to hang from the ceiling of our library, where we had collection jars of crab-like spiders with thick exoskeletons. On Lulu Island, I studied autodidactically the basics of Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji, the components of the Japanese language, during vacation as a teenager, whilst I did also watercolour painting and sculptures from DAS air-dry clay. I then took Japanese language in university. In my twenties, I actually lived in Japan for some time. Later, for years on my Social Media, I have been observing exquisite Japanese images. And I become a fan of anime. To me, Japanese aesthetics allude to Finnish, Eskimo, and Polynesian artwork. Japanese art can contrast the ancient with the ultramodern.

Later in the morning, before 10, I returned to Tim Hortons. I walked as I usually did. At a corner of a long table with a graphic of an ice hockey rink, I was eating an Herb and Garlic Pastry whilst drinking a Specialty Chai Tea with Oat Milk. Pushpak the South Asian vendor was there, then. I saw my friend Leo the Filipino with a big bag of groceries for "two weeks' worth." He said that he still ate Filipino-style, despite being here in "the Great White North." There was a dark-haired technical man with a strange Euro-like accent using a sophisticated ultramodern rotating black camera on a tripod for taking "measurements for insurance." He mentioned the word "lighter." At home, I listened to music from a radio app on my tablet: Happy '70s, '80s & '90s Pop Rock, House: Deep to Future, Baroque, Zouk Hits, and Southeast Asia Psychedelics. I was earlier today making contributions to articles in the Tagalog Wikipedia. It was the 23rd of January of 2025.

It's hot and sunny today, this 2nd of July of 2025, here on Lulu Island. I ventured walking to Tim Hortons café several times for the usual drinks and a Turkey Bacon Club Artisan Sandwich. I saw Michael L. J. the ufologist Dane-French on the way. He was wearing an ultramodern pair of sharp orange-tinted sunglasses. He was complaining about a snobby cashier at the gas station. On his cellphone, he showed me videos of flickering spooky bedroom lights that he attributes to extraterrestrials. He's thinking more of the famous Grey Aliens, but I tend to think that, instead, they may be postbiological. On my way home, I saw Robby, the neighbour Derek's Filipino uncle, in his car. He's Baptist like the rest of their family, still less common for Filipinos, mostly Roman Catholics.
