[Edward] Harrigan, who is best remembered for his turn-of-the-twentieth-century musical comedies with collaborator Tony Hart, went on to clarify that “if it isn't native, it isn't New York,” by way of explaining the un-Americanness presumably espoused by these new immigrants.
