Ur-culture

Heroic cultures are inevitably presented as ur-cultures, as something not so much lived in as looked back upon.

The Satsumon culture itself was presumably some mixture of Jomon and Yayoi, which as others have mentioned are the main two ur-cultures in Japan (though there are definitely later waves of arrivals as well).
