Winterover

The people who spend the winter at the Pole are known as winterovers. And here’s the kicker. South Pole winterovers are essentially stranded at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station from the time the last plane flies out in mid-February until the next plane lands in early November.

Even the chance of seeing the sun was enough to draw a crowd from the ten winterover Kiwis and two hundred and fifty McMurdoans to the peak.
