Despite all the intricacies of this process, I focus specifically on the gradual 'wokification' of the 2016 and 2020 Sanders campaigns. If this attention to identity issues appears to distort the purpose and overall agenda of the Sanders movement, one can only seek to explain why it played the extensive role that it did in 2020.
