Pee-wee Herman is a brilliant creation. He is the epitomal '50s nerd: overly fastidious and so repressed that his sexual energy keeps erupting in nervous giggles and snide, childish, quibbles. In his two-sizes-too-small gray suit and his slightly made-up face, he resembles nothing less than a contemporary Little Lord Fauntleroy crossed with Joel Grey in Cabaret.
