Like Love in Excess, the later Fantomina (1725) and other works such as Love-Letters on All Occasions (1730) place their heroines in sexual and social control and, contrary to traditionally parapornographic works, do not punish them for exercising that control. Rather, the women are rewarded for taking charge and subverting social norms.
