Passe-gardes, generally applied to 'Maximilian' armour, are really to be found occasionally much earlier, as an example in Southerly church (1479) shows. The Beauchamp brass figure at Warwick (1439) shows the passe-garde, but the general character of the armor indicates a later date of make.
