Now diminutives do bug me, but many of the gender-specificity comes equally from the female side -- I know of at least two female editors to whom I've sent work who are very specific about calling themselves "Editrix" instead of "Editor". I have a female friend whom I call a "poet" but who's corrects me repeatedly. I think what we should do is ban diminutives. Else we will one day have a Presidentrix of the United States.
