The first phase to give a "true picture of America" in order to counter communist anti-American propaganda managed to impress on Southeast Asian minds meaningless images of superhighways, supermarkets, electric kitchens, and whirring industrial wheels coupled with what can only be described as a superunbelievable materialistic standard of living. If it would have called forth any specific reactions in Southeast Asia, the obvious ones would have been envy and dissatisfaction.
