Acedapsone

We report here the successful use of a new repository sulphone, acedapsone, in a field trial in Micronesia, both for the treatment of active leprosy cases and for the prevention of leprosy in an exposed, highly susceptible population.

In the 1960s and 1970s chemoprophylaxis with dapsone and acedapsone was investigated.

The more intense effect arises, of course, from the relatively facile non-enzymatic hydrolysis of these compounds as opposed to the enzyme-dependent hydrolysis of acedapsone.
