Countersurf

Keep all food items off the kitchen countertops from the very beginning, so your puppy won't want to "countersurf."

Wait untilthe dog is otherwise engaged—sniffing the floor, looking out a window, countersurfing on a table—and not near a human.

Behaviors that respond well to the three-step process are those where the dog does something in order to get good stuff. He jumps up to get attention. He countersurfs because he finds good stuff on counters.
