Momfluencer

Feeling overwhelmed and maybe a bit underappreciated, we moms gravitate toward the insistence of well-meaning momfluencers who tell us what we "deserve” — we "deserve" a break. Praise. Recognition.

The everchanging expectations voiced by an endless stream of “experts” (and the momfluencer with 12K followers and the gingham filter for that perfect orange-y skin glow) makes it impossible to feel like you're succeeding at motherhood.

And now, some of the first Insta Stories I watch as I nurse my baby at 6:23 a.m. are by Hannah of @ballerinafarm, a new face to the momfluencer stratosphere, but one of many conventionally beautiful, straight, white women who perform a version of motherhood that feels like pioneer cosplay hit with a dash of Brooklyn hipster aesthetics.

The soul of this community is local queen bee Sherry Conrad (Search Party alum Shalita Grant, the season’s MVP), an officious, controlling momfluencer with a knack for stealing the spotlight.

[Nancy] Mace[…]is easily clocked as just the kind of Republican woman who is ascendant in the Trump administration. The women’s hair is in Utah curls, long waves with straight ends, popularized by Mormon momfluencers.
