Borrowed from French Gabrielle, feminine form of Gabriel (see there for more).
The main supporting character in the television series Xena: Warrior Princess (1995–2001) was the inspiration for the dwarf planet's moon's nickname, due to the dwarf planet itself being nicknamed Xena.
