Borrowed from Latin musca (“a fly”). Named by Dutch explorers Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederick de Houtman, between 1595 and 1597. Doublet of mouche.

Etymology 2

Calque of Spanish T-MEC (Tratado entre México y Estados Unidos y Canadá). Coined in analogy to USMCA and CUSMA.
