Etymology

From genus name, translingual Phascogale (from Ancient Greek φάσκωλος (pháskōlos, “pouch, wallet”) + γαλέη (galéē, “weasel”)), classified 1824 by Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck.
