Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish راقی (rakı), from Arabic عَرَقِيّ (ʕaraqiyy, “of liquor”), from عَرَق (ʕaraq, “arrack, arak”), literally, “sweat”, “condensate,” which refers to an ouzo-like liqueur made of raisins. Doublet of rakija.
