From translingual Trematoda, from Ancient Greek τρημᾰτώδης (trēmătṓdēs, “having a vent to the intestinal canal”), from τρῆμᾰ (trêmă, “perforation, aperture”) + -ώδης (-ṓdēs, “full of, -like”).
