Anti-semitism

Historically, anti-Semitism has ranged from hate speech and discrimination against individual Jewish people to organized pogroms and military attacks on entire Jewish communities.

Spanish history is replete with official anti-Semitism: the 14th-century massacres of Jews in Seville, Córdoba and elsewhere, incited by a prominent Catholic clergyman; the Spanish Inquisition and forced religious conversions, beginning in the 15th century; and the expulsion of an estimated 70,000 Jews by decree of Ferdinand and Isabella.

Both Ilhan and Rashida strongly oppose all forms of racism, tribal quarrels and racial hatred, whether Islamophobia, anti-Semitism or the xenophobic detention and deportation of asylum-seekers.

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights defines anti-Semitism as “rhetorical and physical manifestations directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities. Such manifestations could also target the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity, but criticism of Israel similar to that levelled against any other country cannot be regarded as anti-Semitic.”

Germany’s anti-Semitism commissioner has asked all citizens to wear the kippah in solidarity with the Jewish community, in the run-up to planned anti-Israel protests Saturday.

It isn’t surprising that American Jews fear far-right anti-Semitism more than anti-Semitism from any other source: the Anti-Defamation League has found that it is the source of the vast majority of ideologically motivated extremist violence in the U.S.

But Israel's policy of anti-semitism against Palestinians was not to the liking of India.

Debate on Middle East issues is limited by what can only be seen as anti-Arab racism (itself a form of racist anti-semitism, since Arabs are semitic peoples), based on a severe lack of information.

At this university, a faculty member has even gone so far as to declare Zionism a form of anti-Semitism against Palestinians.
