Bacchus

Bacchus has drowned more men than Neptune.

The women, who, according to the custom at this festival of Bacchus, the vintage season, were called from the neighbouring villages to lend assistance, cast their eyes upon Daphnis, and exclaimed that he was as handsome as Bacchus himself.

"Come, jolly Bacchus, giver of delight; / kind Juno, come; and ye with fair accord / and friendly spirit hold the feast aright."

One festival was called Saturnalia and honored Saturn, another was called Bacchanalia and honored Bacchus.
