Caned

The teacher caned the children if they misbehaved or were unable to recite their times tables.

When I was at school, we were caned regularly. Nowadays, it's illegal in many schools for a teacher to hit a student.

But, somehow, you missed the plane / You did too much E / Met somebody and spent the night getting caned
