Insulinize

The decrease in insulin binding with improved metabolic control may be a result of the peripheral hyperinsulinemia required to insulinize the liver effectively when insulin is administered by a peripheral route.

by the principles of good preventive pediatrics make an early diagnosis of IDDM before complete beta-cell destruction has occurred; at the first evidence of sustained hyperglycemia, hospitalize the child, and initiate insulin therapy and adequately insulinize the child using the principles and dosages found in Chapters 5 and 6.

There is strong evidence suggesting that an oral insulin product would provide insulin in a more physiological manner, with a resultant decrease in peripheral insulin concentration and that it would more adequately insulinize the liver.

One also has to be extremely careful not to over-insulinize a patient with too much basal insulin, which can lead to significant glycemic variability and hypoglycemia.
