Irradiance

This December, NASA is launching an instrument to the International Space Station to continue monitoring the Sun’s energy input to the Earth system. The Total and Spectral solar Irradiance Sensor (TSIS-1) will precisely measure what scientists call “total solar irradiance.”

A number of sophisticated instruments aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory are measuring the sun’s interior, its magnetic field, the plasma of the solar corona, and its irradiance or power of its electromagnetic radiation.

The geometry of the cone θ and the irradiance at the image of the carbon block were used to determine the absolute steradiancy of the energy in the cone θ as a radiometer calibration value.
