Marten

Looking closer at the photos, I could tell that the weasel was an American marten by the light color of the fur on its throat.

Marten are the most widespread and probably the most abundant of these predators in Southeast Alaska.

The female Marten forms a nest of grass among the rocks, in a hollow tree, or utilises an old crow's nest by relining it, and produces a litter of four or five—sometimes varied in number from two to seven—and there are at least two litters each year.

Going home, I came across a dead marten lying in the middle of the sidewalk.

The marten is quite a common animal, but you rarely see it.

Towards the end of the month, swallows and house martens congregate, and are often seen resting on the ridges or sloping roofs of buildings.
