One-quarter

When half of the Moon's disc is illuminated, we call it the first quarter moon. This name comes from the fact that the Moon is now one-quarter of the way through the lunar month.

The ocean is great at sucking up CO₂ from the air. It absorbs about one-quarter of the CO₂ that we humans create when we burn fossil fuels.

The asteroid, named ‘Oumuamua by its discoverers, is up to one-quarter mile (400 meters) long and highly-elongated—perhaps 10 times as long as it is wide. That is unlike any asteroid or comet observed in our solar system to date, and may provide new clues into how other solar systems formed.

About one-quarter of those with student loans borrowed for graduate school, but that one-quarter owns about half of all outstanding student loan debt.

That distinction belongs to the broadcast network (this year CBS) itself, which takes as much as one-quarter of the commercial time to promote its own shows.

Before dawn, I was walking around and around the clandestine neighbourhood cul-de-sac. I was observing the dark sky with illumined clouds. The cul-de-sac is one of my other temples. In the sunny morning, I did see Marian my blonde British neighbour. She was dressed in green, as I was. She remarked how the air still felt cool. Her husband Martin is an Anglo with some German blood. Later, I greeted Sandra my Fijian neighbour, who is three-quarters Chinese and one-quarter East Indian. She was married to a Caribbean black, and has two hybrid children, Darius and Jewel. It's the 22nd of May of 2025.
