Panes

Often at midnight the Snow Queen flies through the streets of the town, and looks in at the windows, then the ice freezes on the panes into wonderful shapes, that look like flowers and castles.

The little mermaid swam right up to the cabin windows, and every time she was lifted by the swell she could see through the transparent panes crowds of gaily dressed people.

Back then, not all windows had panes.

It was a black disk, with a row of yellow window panes.

In Holland, you have houses with window panes and shutters.
