Philology

Professor Smith is recognized to be one of the greatest scholars in English philology.

Philology and medicine were named by Nietzsche to be "the two great opponents of all superstition".

From a translation I demand that it combine fidelity with sonority, and that it incorporate the genius of the language that it is written in, and not that of the original language. A good translator, therefore, needs to be intimately acquainted with the philology of a language pair.

But we take it in the larger notion as incluſive of all human liberal Studies and prepoſed to Divinity as the Porch to the Palace.
