Quarts

In the imperial measurement system, four quarts equals one gallon.

Pare, core and slice two quarts of apples.

Peel, core and quarter two quarts of tart apples.

Pare and slice two quarts of tart apples. Add one cup of water and cook slowly until soft.

Put these to boil in two quarts of water with two turnips, a carrot sliced, two teaspoonfuls of salt, and one of pepper.
