Rabbi Sherry Shulewitz, associate executive director of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, explains that in the Reconstructionist view, “conversion is a gateway to membership in the Jewish people and a gift that the Jewish people offer new members.”

Reconstructionists view the Jewish people as the unchanging constant through history in which beliefs, practices, and institutions have continuously evolved.
