Sandveld

In the sandvelds with a rainfall above 25 inches, where it has proved difficult to maintain good annual crop yields under any economical rotation of annual crops, the retirement of ploughed land to leys is highly desirable.

The temperate affinities of this subtropical sub-humid sandveld are with the relatively cool section of a gradient within temperate bushveld, characterized by, e.g. Protea and Faurea species.
