Sarajevan

In a show of Sarajevan defiance or perhaps simply out of habit, old men in flat caps are playing giant chess in the tree-lined square outside the Orthodox cathedral, quite as if they’re not in danger, just as they do every afternoon.

Sarajevans – old, young, men, women, Muslim, Croat, Serb – dart across the road in zigzags in an attempt to dodge the bullets.
