Eating dim sims is a bad habit.

I love the Dim sims from Tim Ho Wan.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is showing an exhibition of African American art from the same period. Studio Museum Director Lowery Sims, who was at the Met for 30 years before coming to the Studio, says the two exhibitions are co-incidental, but understandable.

Sims removes the batteries and crunches the phones to bits, then melts the shards and rubble in furnaces. What comes out is an amalgam of metals—plus slag from the plastic and glass and impurities.

Sorted garbage arrives at the baler, which produces the facility's final product — pressed bales of plastic and metal, each weighing up to half a ton. Sims Recycling sells the bales to industrial plants where new bottles and cans are made for New Yorkers to use again.

But director Lowery Stokes Sims said the Studio Museum is benefiting from a new recognition and a surge in Black philanthropy.
