Summation

I object to that summation; it was entirely too short.

To obtain the net mechanical force over the entire object, we must sum the contributions from all the small sections. Mathematically, the summation is indicated by the Greek letter sigma (Σ).

The effects of forces applied at different points and in different directions can be obtained by summation, and the effect of continuously distributed forces can be obtained by integration.

In this article, we use Einstein notation for summation.
