Ur-type

The simple ur-type is the value of the primitive type definition and base type definition properties of a simple type if—and only ... No simple types not defined in the Schema Recommendation may be directly derived from the simple ur-type.

The array in the following example is of type ur-type, which is the base type of all the other XML schema types. The ur-type is analogous to the Object type in Java.
